Platform

Current Project Cases
Below you can find an overview of the project cases currently available in the Hydrogen Power Learning Community:
Topic
Safety study for aluhal festival
For a festival in Groningen, HyER Power has been tasked with supplying heat and electricity to a tent. Since the event is held in a built-up area, strict safety regulations apply. The study focuses on analyzing the constraints and possibilities for the safe use of hydrogen-powered fuel cell generators in urban environments.
Topic
Safety study for Amsterdam
For a construction site in Amsterdam, HyER Power was asked to supply electricity for asphalt machinery. The study involves analyzing the constraints and opportunities for the safe deployment of hydrogen-powered fuel cell generators to provide construction site power in urban environments.
Topic
Safety study for Zeeland
For a grant project, HyER Power will develop and install a building-integrated fuel cell and heat pump system at an industrial hall in Zeeland. The study focuses on analyzing the limitations and possibilities for safely using hydrogen-powered fuel cell generators in building-integrated systems, with hydrogen being delivered remotely in trailers.
Topic
Green hydrogen and construction tenders/procurement
Green Energy solutions, such as hydrogen, are transforming the construction industry. However due to its novelty there is still a lot of debate around topics like regulations and certification. The study involves researching regulations regarding tenders and emissions, What requirements hydrogen must meet to contribute to sustainable construction and how to certify green hydrogen.
Topic
Hydrogen generators on the construction site
Hydrogen can play a big role in power generation on construction sites. This study focuses on how hydrogen generators can be used in a construction site environment, focusing on questions like: What power is required on a construction site, Which phases of construction are suitable for the use of a generator and how do this generators fit into the existing infrastructure?
Topic
Green hydrogen production on a solar field/wind farm
In order for hydrogen to become a mainstream energy source there needs to be ample production through for example solar fields or wind farms. What is needed to make a solar field/wind farm profitable, how do you build a safe production site for hydrogen production and how does it contribute to grid balancing/mitigating grid congestion?
Working Safely with Hydrogen
The "Working Safely with Hydrogen" challenge, spearheaded by a consortium including Hyer Power, NIPV, and The Green Village at TU Delft, tackles the crucial challenge of ensuring safety in the use and storage of hydrogen within the built environment. This initiative, part of the broader ELEVATE project, aims to generate and disseminate comprehensive knowledge on the safe application of hydrogen technologies in energy systems. By focusing on safety studies in collaboration with a learning community, the project addresses the knowledge gap in handling hydrogen safely—crucial for public safety, infrastructure resilience, and the successful integration of hydrogen as a cornerstone of sustainable energy transitions. Achieving these objectives will significantly advance the safe adoption of hydrogen, aligning with SDGs on clean energy, industry innovation, and sustainable infrastructure, and fostering a safer, sustainable energy future.

Stakeholders & Bijeenkomsten

Student Perspective
"My experience with Learning Communities (LCs) was very positive, particularly during the Joint Interdisciplinary Project (JIP) in Q1 of my second year of MSc. As part of my team, I worked on the safe integration of hydrogen in the HYER Power plant for a new installation in Rotterdam. The LCs provided a great platform for collaboration, allowing us to engage with other teams working on hydrogen safety, share insights on risk assessments, and discuss the necessary safety measures for future implementation. These sessions helped us refine our approach by incorporating diverse perspectives and staying updated on best practices in hydrogen safety standards. Additionally, we had the opportunity to receive valuable input from experts, exchange technical knowledge, and explore potential regulatory and engineering challenges related to hydrogen adoption. The interactive nature of the LCs made it a rewarding learning experience, fostering teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving in real-world energy applications."
