Two weeks ago, Radulphus College Curaçao launched a new climate awareness initiative with an interactive workshop for VWO 4 and VWO 5 students. In collaboration with TU Delft, this pilot program aims to raise awareness among high school students about climate change and its local and global impacts.
Through a series of interactive sessions, assignments, and lectures, TU Delft and Radulphus College are co-developing an educational program and toolkit for schools across Curaçao. The goal: integrate climate education into the curriculum in a way that is hands-on, collaborative, and solution-oriented.
During the workshop, TU Delft Master’s students Abel Svejda and Joram Nottrot facilitated small-group brainstorming sessions where students explored how climate change is affecting their everyday lives. Topics such as rising temperatures, sea-level rise, and extreme rainfall were discussed. Each group then chose a specific issue that resonated with them and worked together to develop a solution.
The result? A series of creative and thought-provoking posters on questions like:
🌡️ How can we reduce heat in our school buildings?
🐠 How can we protect Curaçao’s coral reefs?
💧 What can we do to prepare for droughts?
Engaging the younger generation in climate discussions is essential. Not only does it deepen their understanding and sense of ownership over these challenges, but it also builds essential skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving, preparing them for their future studies and careers.
We look forward to continuing this journey together and supporting more schools on Curaçao in becoming climate-aware learning environments. 🌱

University of Curacao visits TU Delft!
25-03-2025
This week we were honoured to receive two guests from the University of Curacao! Both Tamara van Aerden, programme manager, and Richenel Bulbaai, dean of the faculty of engineering, came to visit the TU Delft campus and our Learning Communities 🧑🏫
Together, we explored the campus, met with the students who will start their exchange on Curacao next September and paid a visit our Learning Community in Maassluis where our students are collaborating on a self-sustaining port! ⛴️
Dear both, thanks for coming and we will meet soon again!

Kick-off Port of Maassluis!
06-03-2025
Last week our Learning Community Port of Maasluis had its kick-off in Maassluis. In two weeks they will host their first sprint session. The picture was taken in front of the 'Hudson', this is a museum ship that is located in Maassluis.

Information Lunch LC's Gezonde Wijk & Green Campus
June 10, 2025
Faculty of Industrial Engineering
📢 New Learning Communities starting next year:
- LC Gezonde Wijk (Healthy Neighborhood – based in Curaçao)
- LC Green Campus (in collaboration with Green TU)
To introduce these new LCs, we invite you to an informal lunch information session:
🗓️ Date: June 10th
🕐 Time: 12:45
📍 Location: TU Delft campus
🍴 Lunch is included!
During this session, teachers and students will present upcoming projects and share their experiences. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions and explore how you can get involved.
Are you a university, college (HBO), or vocational (MBO) student thinking about complex societal issues such as climate change or the energy transition?
And are you wondering how you can contribute to solving them?
Then the Learning Communities are perfect for you. Here, students, teachers, companies, government, and citizens come together to learn, work, and innovate.
Learning and working in Learning Communities takes place within society, not just at school.
Drawing from your expertise, you collaborate with other students on solutions, each contributing from their own area of expertise and learning objectives. Together with the stakeholders' expertise, you determine the approach and outcomes of the challenge.
"If you want to make an impact on society and understand technology in a broader context, Learning Communities provide the ideal and unique environment for that."

Who are the Learning Communities for?
For students, teachers, companies, government, and citizens.
The themes of the Learning Community revolve around climate, energy transition, healthcare, and societal challenges (link). You will work on a small part of a complex problem in collaboration with students from different educational levels and backgrounds. Together, you learn from each other's approaches and expertise. As a team, you take a step toward solving the complex issue. After your contribution, other students will continue building on the outcomes of your Learning Community. In this way, we collectively make steady progress in finding sustainable solutions for complex challenges.
Ultimately, you will share your findings with fellow students and stakeholders. For this assignment, you will earn the regular ECTS credits for the course as well as a unique diploma, which will be an excellent addition to your CV.
In a Learning Community, you receive input not only from companies but also from the government, citizens, and students with diverse backgrounds. You have the freedom to design your own learning path, which could include interesting courses, company assignments, developing an exhibition with citizens, or managing projects at a school.
Through these experiences, you learn to consider the various perspectives needed to realize a technological innovation. After all, a technological innovation is not created in a lab alone. It’s essential to understand how it will be used, what resistance it might encounter, and whether regulations could pose challenges. Moreover, every technological solution requires raising awareness among citizens, helping them understand why the technology is needed and what they can do themselves. Citizens also need to change their behavior. Transitions are not achieved with technology alone!
Whether you are a vocational, college, or TU Delft student, you can participate in challenges that match your background and are guided by a teacher. These communities are dynamic and continue to evolve even after your assignment is completed.

With what can you join?
Everywhere! In projects, your thesis, internships, and more. A Learning Community never stops; it’s an ongoing process where students continuously come up with solutions together.
How do you join?
Sign up on the website and indicate which challenge appeals to you. Fill out the form and register for the information session. There, you can ask all your questions, in Dutch or English. Your supervisor is also welcome. Be sure to discuss your learning objectives with your supervisor beforehand.
As a student in a Learning Community, you will participate in three co-creation sessions every ten weeks, working with professionals and other students. Additionally, you'll include a reflection in your report, describing what you have learned and how you have contributed. At the end of the project, you will present your results and insights to the partners.

Start in the Learning Community
As Soon as the Learning Community Starts
You go through different phases:
Phase 1
The personal development question
In this first phase, you formulate the assignment you want to work on and set your learning objectives in consultation with your supervising instructor. This step is crucial, and we are here to support you throughout the process.
Phase 2
The problem definition
During the second phase, the Learning Community is established, and relevant stakeholders join. In this phase, the input, expertise, and background of all participants are utilized to determine a direction for finding solutions. This direction is not dictated by a specific company or the government but is shaped by diverse perspectives such as ethics, sustainability, and economics.
Phase 3
The overarching ecosystem
The third phase encompasses the overarching ecosystem, where your Learning Community can learn from other communities. Through EdX, you always have access to what is happening and can communicate with other communities, sharing experiences and knowledge.
